Palestinian Civil Police participate in a study trip to Cyprus
Ramallah, Oct. 25, 2011 - Members of Palestinian Civil Police participated recently in a week-long study trip to Cyprus to experience first hand from their Cypriot counterparts about best police practices, strategic planning and administrative matters.
The four-member PCP delegation met with the Cypriot Chief of Police Michael Papageorgiou, who explained to his guests the Cypriot police organisation and the function of different police departments.
The Cypriot Police Strategic Planning Team discussed with their Palestinian counterparts the Cyprus Police Strategic Plan (2012-2016) and different ways for drafting, implementing, monitoring, mentoring and inspecting the strategic plan and activities which result from such a plan.
The trip, which also included visits to the Cyprus Polic Academy and Special Forces, was coordinated by EUPOL COPPS.
EUPOL COPPS’s Police Adviser Ioannis MAVROCHANNA, who accompanied the PCP delegation to Cyprus, said: “The trip was excellent. Thanks to the generous hospitability of the Cypriot Police. The Palestinian delegation had many interesting discussions and learned a lot from the experience of the Cypriot Police”.
Cyprus is one of the donors who helped with equipping the PCP in the past, for instance by providing motorbikes and other necessities for the operational police work in the West Bank.
