Chief of police awards veteran EUPOL COPPS Police Adviser

Ramallah, 9th January 2012 -  Chief of Palestinian Civil Police Major General  Hazem Attallah held a reception  at PCP’s Special Forces premises  as a token of appreciation for EUPOL COPPS Police Adviser Jean Frédéric Martin for his relentless efforts in strengthening  the capacity of the Special Police Force.

During the two-hour long ceremony, which was  attended by top aides of Chief of Police as well as Sofie Mortier, Deputy head of EUPOL COPPS and Rodophe Mauget, head of Police Advisory Section, Attallah handed  the French expert  “Medal for Distinguished People”,  one of the PCP’s highest and most prestigious award.

Major General Attallah praised the efforts exerted by Martin in supporting and training the elite unit, adding that Martin’s contribution was  “the most successful project” in building the capability of the force.

“You have done a very good job,”  Attallah told Martin, adding that his reputation was very well recognised by all each member of the SPF and that it was “difficult for any one to reach this level of respect”.

Martin, specialised in a plethora of police sciences such as public order, defensive tactics and border policing, had served in several EU missions around the world before starting his job with EUPOL COPS in 2008. He had worked in Kosovo, Djibouti and Comoros Island in the Indian Ocean as well as the European Union Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing Point, EUBAM RAFAH.

EUPOL COPPS’ police advisers, such as Martin, helped in strengthening the PCP and its different departments including the SPF, in fields of logistics, equipment and training and became a success story.

The unit, comprising 1,300 members, are trained to maintain public order by using non-lethal techniques to peacefully disperse violent riots, without infringing on rioters rights.
