Ramallah, 13th June 2013 – Head of EUPOL COPPS, Kenneth DEANE presented the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) medals to 25 staff members representing a total of 13 countries, including Canada. The medals, which are presented on behalf of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness Catherine ASHTON, are awarded for service within CSDP Missions.
The EU Representative, John GATT-RUTTER, the Chief of the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) Major General Hazem ATTALLAH, as well as representatives of EU Member States and Canada participated in the medal parade ceremony, which was organised in the EUPOL COPPS Headquarters in Ramallah.
Marking the occasion, Kenneth DEANE thanked the Mission personnel for their committed and professional work, the combined result of which ensures the continuing success of the Mission in support of the PCP and wider criminal justice institutions. The assistance we provide has contributed to making these institutions become credible, sustainable and professional and, even more importantly, generally attracting the trust and confidence of the Palestinian people, he stated.
John GATT-RUTTER expressed his strong appreciation of the Mission’s work within the wider context of continued EU support to the achievement of a Palestine State, pointing out its tangible results in reflecting significant EU engagement with Palestinian institutional building. Major General Hazem ATTALLAH congratulated EUPOL COPPS members for their support in building a modern police for the future State of Palestine. “You are our partners in success, we will never forget this”, he said.
