Ramallah, 31st Jan 2013 - EUPOL COPPS continues to support the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) to strengthen the institutional development and capacity of the Family Protection Unit (FPU), the specialized police body that fights and investigates crimes of domestic and gender based violence.

EUPOL COPPS sponsored on Thursday the first meeting of the new inter-institutional working group on the FPU, tasked to develop Standard Operating Procedures, human resources policies and training curricula for the FPU.

Key stakeholders, such as Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Education, Palestinian Bar Association, Palestinian Universities and international and civil society organizations, attended the event at the PCP headquarters in Ramallah and will participate in the future meetings of the working group.

In 2012 the PCP, with the technical advice of EUPOL COPPS and UN Women, developed the FPU Strategy and Regulations which will be adopted in a near future in order to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of the FPU. This project is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

EUPOL COPPS remains committed to support the development of policies, procedures and best practices enhancing law enforcement services and access to justice for victims of domestic and gender based violence throughout the occupied Palestinian territory.
