Italian Ministry of Justice team visits Palestinian Authority institutions

Ramallah, 22nd October 2013 - A Technical Delegation from the Italian Ministry of Justice visited several Institutions of the Palestinian  Authority and relevant international and national actors of the justice sector to strengthen the capabilities of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).
 
The parties discussed the ongoing process, under the  sponsorship of MoJ, of drafting a law on domestic violence . The delegation also assessed the work of the Human Rights Unit within the Palestinian MoJ, previously established with support from the Italian Development Cooperation office in Jerusalem. 
 
The four-member team also visited the Palestinian Bar Association (PBA) to learn about current capabilities of Palestinian lawyers in defending rights of gender-based and domestic violence victims  and other bodies providing support and rehabilitation services for victims of violence such as TAWASOL women empowerment centers, established with funding by the Italian Development Cooperation across the governorates of the West Bank.
 
The three-day visit is based on implementing   the Memorandum of Understanding  signed between the Italian and the Palestinian ministries of Justice in November 2012, which was facilitated by the EUPOL COPPS Mission.

The Delegation had a meeting with the EUPOL COPPS Head of Mission and Head of Rule of Law Section as well as other Mission members.  
 
The visit was organized by the Consulate General of Italy and the Jerusalem-based Italian Development Cooperation office.
