New police facilities inaugurated in Northern West Bank Districts

Nablus, October 11, 2012 - The Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) together with the Netherlands Representative Office and EUPOL COPPS officially inaugurated a Multifunctional hall in Nablus HQ District and a Juvenile Police Unit facility in Salfit.
 
The refurbishment of the Multifunctional Hall in the District HQ Nablus aims at facilitating workshops, training, studies and reception of visitors. The new Juvenile Police Unit facility in Salfit will allow the juvenile police officers to work with minors in accordance with international standards.
 
The overall project was funded by the Dutch Government, through the United Nations Office for Projects Services (UNOPS), with the support of EUPOL COPPS.
 
The inauguration took place in presence of Brigadier General Fawwaz Dawood from the PCP, the Deputy Head of the Netherlands Representative Office to the Palestinian Authority Gert Kampman and the Deputy Head of Mission of EUPOL COPPS Sofie Mortier.
 
“Today’s inauguration symbolizes the strong commitment of the Dutch Government and EUPOL COPPS to support the Palestinian people and the PCP. These new facilities will enhance our operational capacity to better serve the population”, said Brig Gen Dawood.
 
During the ceremony, Mr. Kampman reiterated the key role of the PCP to reinforce the rule of law, as well as the safety and the security of Palestinian citizens. “The Dutch Government is proud to have contributed to the refurbishment of the new facilities that will enable the PCP to provide even more justice and security to the Palestinian people”.
 

“The accomplished projects will further enhance the capacities of the PCP in order to engage in a pro-active community policing and to provide security services to the citizens”, said Ms. Mortier.
