Ramallah, 24th April 2013 - The Palestinian Civil Police held a consultation workshop on April 24, 2013 with relevant Palestinian Authority institutions to discuss the draft accountability strategy which aims to enhance general oversight within the PCP and cement bridges with the public.
PCP invited key Palestinian governmental bodies to seek consultation and to obtain inputs and comments to be incorporated onto the strategy. The PCP asked representatives of security forces, criminal justice institutions, ministries of justice and interior and President’s Office to submit their comments by the end of April.
The key objectives of the draft strategy are to enhance the trust with the public and to strengthen the transparency within the police, and increase its legitimacy. The accountability strategy will be implemented through a three-year plan.
The one-day workshop, which ignited a lot of constructive discussion, is to be followed soon by a similar brainstorming session with representatives of Palestinian civil society organisations.
The consultations sessions are meant to promote the accountability of the PCP and to kick-start a positive and cooperative partnership between the PCP and key partners.
The workshop is a key output of the UNDP/EUPOL COPPS Joint Accountability Programme funded by the governments of Denmark, Sweden and The Netherlands.
