Ramallah, 26th August 2013 - The Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) organised a consultation seminar for governmental institutions and civil society organisations to discuss the draft of code of conduct for the Palestinian police.
The workshop, which comes within the framework of the EUPOL COPPS/UNDP joint Accountability Programme, was attended by several Palestinian Criminal Justice Institutions and Security Services, as well as representatives from Palestinian civil society.
The future Code was developed and drafted with the support of EUPOL COPPS, harmonising elements of the Palestinian legal framework with international principles of police ethics and conduct.
The Seminar gave an opportunity for external stakeholders of both the government and civil society to discuss the present draft and provide ideas for possible amendments. The in-depth discussion involving all parties has yielded key recommendations and thus provided for a successful conclusion of the workshop.
An official Study Trip to Slovenia will take place in early September for members of the PCP, the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), EUPOL COPPS and UNDP with a focus on the draft Code of Conduct for the PCP.
