Palestinian Police Officers complete a Study Trip in Spain

Madrid, 1st June 2013 - A delegation of Palestinian police officers completed a study trip to Spain to strengthen their capabilities in traffic policing and road safety.

The officers visited the Spanish Guardia Civil Traffic Police and got an overview of European-Spanish strategy for traffic law enforcement and gained better understanding of the need to strengthen institutional capacity to enhance national road safety efforts and developing a PA national specific strategy to reduce number of casualties and provide a safe traffic environment.

During the trip,  the PCP officers paid visit at the Spanish Directorate General Traffico, General Prosecutor’s Office, Guardia Civil Operational Units in Madrid and Sevilla and the Guardia Civil Traffic Academy.
 
The Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) and a police adviser from EUPOL COPPS have accompanied the Palestinian Civil Police officers during the three-day trip.  
 
The Guardia Civil has managed to dramatically decrease the number of casualties and serious incidents in Spain during the past 10 years. With the coordination and advise of EUPOLCOPPS, The unit had recently conducted a number of training courses and other activities on traffic for about 200 PCP officers in the Palestinian College for Police Sciences in Jericho.
