Ramallah, 13 October 2011 - The Palestinian Civil Police gender adviser, Mj. Wafa SULEIMAN, met today with the Secretary of the PA Cabinet, Dr. Naim ABU-HOMMOS. Mj. Suleiman was accompanied by the gender adviser from the Prime Minister’s Office, Hayat BAZZAR, the head of the gender unit of the Ministry of Women Affairs (MOWA), Fatima RADAYDEH, the head of the PCP’s Protocol Unit, Mj. Sufian OMAREYA, along with EUPOL COPPS’ gender adviser.
The delegation briefed the Cabinet Secretary on their recent trip to Brussels, where they met with some of the most important institutions within the EU Council, as well as with Members of the European Parliament (see EUPOL COPPS Press Release from 10 October 2011 on “Palestinian gender delegation visits EU institutions”).
During the meeting, the PCP’s gender adviser had the opportunity to provide the Cabinet Secretary with the details of the new established Police Gender Unit, and the road forward within the PCP on gender in cooperation with MOWA and the Prime Minister’s Office.
Moreover, she presented the concept of the oncoming first PCP Gender Action Plan, as well as the programs and projects developed in this field within the Palestinian Police.
The Cabinet Secretary advised this Gender Task Force to meet with other relevant ministries, such as the Minister of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Planning and Administrative Development, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Education.
Dr. ABU-HOMMOS accepted the invitation to open an oncoming PCP-MOWA-EUPOLCOPPS joint workshop on gender to take place in Ramallah next November, and also agreed to conduct an interview with EUPOL COPPS’ Press and Public Information Office about his gender vision for all across the Palestinian Authority.
