Ramallah – 3rd October 2013 - Two senior Palestinian Police officers paid a visit to the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) traffic and got introduced to the latest road policing model with the aim of cutting down on traffic accidents in the occupied Palestinian territory.
During the study trip to Manchester, the Palestinian officers received a presentation on Road Policing model and traffic enforcement strategy in the city of Manchester and forensic techniques on road traffic collision used by GMP.
UK Police also explained role and function of the Traffic Community Support Officers , a civilian member of police staff employed as a uniformed non-warranted officer to give hand to regular police within the road policing.
This model of Community Policing has proved effective in preventing driving misconduct, improving the traffic circulation in urban areas and raise the traffic awareness among citizen.
After the visit, Palestinian traffic police officers are armed with a better understanding of the necessary traffic prevention and law enforcement strategies to reduce road traffic injuries and to enhance the road safety in occupied Palestinian territory.
