Justice Institutions attend a round-table Meeting

Ramallah - 18th June 2014 - EUPOL COPPS sponsored a roundtable aimed at discussing how to enhance cooperation between the key justice institutions though better defining their respective roles and mandates. The roundtable was attended by the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, the Deputy Minister of Justice and other representatives of the Ministry of Justice.  The roundtable was facilitated by the Chairman of the UK based Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law and EUPOL COPPS, supported by the Head of Human Resources of the UK Courts and Tribunals Service.

A range of issues were discussed  including the manner in which the budget of the HJC is handled, the manner in which goods and services are procured for the judiciary and the links between the prosecution service and the High Judicial Council/Ministry of Justice.

There was a general consensus for the need to offer better clarity with regard to the interrelationship between the Ministry, Judiciary, and Public Prosecution with a number of key areas in need of further attention identified. EUPOL COPPS will now follow up on these recommendations with the institutions and assist them in taking these recommendations forward.
