EUPOL COPPS facilitates a meeting on Police-Prosecution cooperation

Ramallah, August 21, 2014 - A strategic level meeting on police-prosecution cooperation, facilitated by the EUPOL COPPS Mission, was held between the Attorney General, the Chief of Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) and the Acting Head of Mission of EUPOL COPPS.

Presentations were made about the achievements to date in terms of enhancing police/prosecution cooperation and about the challenges which still remain for the future.  It was agreed that these strategic level meetings would be held on a quarterly basis to guide the work of the technical level group which meets on a monthly basis. 

A presentation was also made on the achievements which have been made at a technical level thus far in 2014 such as (e.g. with respect to investigating cybercrimes, issues on search warrants, matters to do with Family Protection Unit (FPU) and with investigating drug related offences).

In terms of the future perspective, it was agreed that research would be undertaken on the issues which arise with respect to the delegation of authority to the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP), standard operating procedures on criminal process standards and possible amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code. 

EUPOL COPPS had held a number of workshops in past few years involving the PCP and Attorney General Office (AGO) to further increase the cooperation between the PCP and the AGO; to better serve the Palestinian citizen.
