Ramallah, August, 26, 2014 - EUPOL COPPS welcomed a delegation of the Palestinian Bar Association (PBA) for an official visit to the Mission Headquarters. The PBA delegation was composed of the President, a member of the Bar Council, and the representatives of the PBA Sub-Committees of Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Hebron. The delegation was welcomed by the Acting-Head of EUPOL COPPS, the Deputy-Head of the Rule of Law Section, and other members of EUPOL COPPS who work with the PBA on a daily basis.
The main purpose of the visit was to present certificates to members of the PBA who participated with EUPOL COPPS in a joint training on cybercrime that has led so far to the education of 101 PBA lawyers throughout the West Bank. Two PBA lawyers participated in a EUPOL COPPS sponsored specialization training on cybercrime provided by the Academy of European Law in Trier, Germany. The participants then went on to deliver the training to 101 members of the PBA in the West Bank.
The visit was also an occasion to celebrate the strong partnership that the Mission enjoys with the PBA, and to exchange views on the status of progress of some common projects - which include alongside the project to enhance the PBA’s capacities in the field of cybercrime, efforts to restructure and reorganize the PBA - starting with a visit to the Florence Bar Association aimed at examining how a well developed Bar in an EU country is organized. Both the Acting Head of EUPOL COPPS and the President of the Bar expressed a strong intent to continue in their joint efforts at strengthening both the Bar Association and the capabilities of individual lawyers in Palestine in order to offer the Palestinian people a strong and independent justice system
