Ramallah, 26th of November 2014 - EUPOL COPPS supported the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) in the organization of a workshop to introduce the idea of “Community Policing”. The basic principle of community policing is to establish permanent communication between the police, public organizations, civil society organization and the people themselves. This partnership gives the police the opportunity to work proactively to avoid problems instead of reacting on problems.
The idea is that a partnership of institutions which are responsible for the public security can achieve synergetic effects by working together rather than to work alone. The representatives of several Palestinian Authority institutions were particularly interested in this concept. The PCP introduction was completed by a presentation of GIZ, a German governmental consultant, who is supporting the PCP by building of community police stations. EUPOL COPPS is permanently working together with both, PCP and GIZ in order to provide advice in the sense of international best practices.
