EUPOL COPPS Supports Palestinian Civil Police meeting with Civil Society Organizations

Ramallah, 09th of December 2014 - EUPOL COPPS supported a workshop where the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) had an open discussion with a number of Civil Society Organizations. The objective was to further improve the level of partnership and cooperation between the PCP and Civil Society Organizations.

Colonel Rodayna Bani Odeh, Head of the PCP Bureau of Grievances and Human Rights, warmly welcomed this event, emphasizing the need to strengthen the PCP capacity to address, in a timely manner, citizens’ complaints regarding police work not only to improve institutional procedures, but also, whenever deemed necessary, to publicly clarify and sustain police actions. Civil Society Organizations are regarded as one of the most relevant partners to further develop the interaction between Palestinians and their Police.

Accountability is a major topic in all Police services all over the world. It underlines how the Police are at the service of the population. In September 2014 the Chief of the Palestinian Police approved the PCP Internal Accountability Enhancement Plan. This plan includes three main strategic objectives:  to enhance PCP accountability, strengthen normative legal aspects, and strengthen external relations.
