EU police mission for the Palestinian territories get new Head of Mission

Ramallah, 17th Feburary 2015 - Rodolphe Mauget (France) was appointed Head of EUPOL COPPS Mission, on 17 February 2015, by the Political and Security Committee. Mauget had been assigned as acting Head of Mission on 01 July 2014 and served the same mission, as Deputy Head, from September 2013.  Previously, he had served as Head of its Police Advisory team and variously as a Police Advisor to the Palestinian Civil Police and desk officer, at the headquarters in Brussels.

“I am honoured to have been appointed by the Political and Security Committee as the next Head of the EUPOL COPPS CSDP mission in the Palestinian territories.   I have had the good fortune to serve this region for the past 10 years and trust that my experience and understanding of the challenges and issues likely to be faced will ensure that the excellent support to and relations with our Palestinian counterparts in the Ministry of Interior, the Police and the wider Criminal Justice institutions continues at pace. Having served here as Deputy Head of Mission, supported by an outstanding EUPOL COPPS team, I already enjoy the full cooperation of the EU family, plus Canada, Norway and Turkey, together with our other international community partners, and I look forward to continuing and developing these relationships, which will be key as we embrace the opportunities and challenges that a new mandate would provide, beyond June of this year.”  

From a French National Police background, started his international career fourteen years ago with O.S.C.E, under UN.M.I.K umbrella in Kosovo and then moved to O.S.C.E. spillover mission to F.Y.R.O.M.As part of the 2005-2006 EUPOL COPPS planning team, he audited the Palestinian Civil Police public order capacity, in Gaza and West Bank.From 2009 to 2012, Mauget was assigned as Police Expert to the European External Action Service (EEAS), Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability, Conduct of Operations Unit. He conducted CSDP Mission reviews in EUPOL RD Congo, EUPOL Afghanistan and in both EUPOL COPPS and EUBAM Rafah.

EUPOL COPPS is a European Union Common Security and Defense Policy civilian mission, based in the West Bank. Established in 2006, it forms part of the wider EU efforts to support Palestinian state building, in the context of working towards a comprehensive peace, based on a two-State solution.

EUPOL COPPS assists the Palestinian Authority in building its institutions, for a future Palestinian State, focused on security and justice sector reform. The Mission also coordinates and facilitates external donor assistance to the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP). The mission includes police trainers and rule of law experts from 19 EU Member States, Canada, Norway and Turkey.
