EUPOL COPPS supports the Traffic Safety Week

On 4 May, the Arab Traffic Safety Week was launched. This awareness campaign is the most important event in West Bank with regard to Traffic Awareness including Community Policing. Every year around 1.24 million people die because of a road traffic crash and between 20 to 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury. Road traffic injuries cause considerable economic losses to victims, their families, and to nations as a whole.

From 4 until 10 May, many activities are organized by the Palestinian Civil Police Traffic department, with the support of the United Kingdom and of EUPOL COPPS. The activities will draw attention to the urgent need to better protect children and generate action on the measures needed to do so. This year, a particular focus will be on raising awareness in the West Bank universities.
