
Ramallah, May 07, 2015 - A joint delegation of EUPOL COPPS, the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) and the Palestinian High Judicial Council participated on Thursday in the celebrations of Europe Day which was organised by the Office of the European Union Representative. The one-day event, which also included recreational activities for children, has attracted hundreds of guests. The EUPOL COPPS and PCP delegations stood at the plaza of First Ramallah group in a joint booth with the other EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Mission in the area, EUBAM Rafah.
Head of the Office of EU Representative in Jerusalem John Gatt- Rutter and Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah visited the open-air fair including the stand of the Mission. Staff members of EUPOL COPPS and EUBAM Rafah have distributed brochures and leaflets from their respective organizations, as well as promotional materials such as T-shirts, pens, pins, footballs key-chains and balloons to the visitors who passed by this annual public exhibition, showcasing the EU's support to the Palestinian people.
On the occasion of the Traffic Safety Week, two officers from the Palestinian Traffic Police exhibited a motorbike to the public. Raising awareness, especially towards the children, is another example of the PCP’s commitment in reducing accidents on the roads.
Another delegation from the Mission, along with PCP and Palestinian High Judicial Council will participate in the Open Day that all EU institutions will celebrate on May 9th in Brussels. Europe Day marks the founding of the European Union, when European leaders decided to set aside differences and work together, for the greater good of the people of Europe.
