On 15 June 2015, EUPOL COPPS facilitated a Roundtable Event on Fair Trial for District practitioners in the criminal justice sectors. This final event concluded a series of roundtable events held in April and May in Jenin, Jericho, and Bethlehem, as well as some 15 focal group meetings with District Judges, Prosecutors, Police Commanders and Lawyers. These events are seen as an important step in the wider approach towards the full realization of the right to a fair trial in Palestine. The focus of this series of event was to raise awareness on the right to a fair trial in the West Bank Districts, as well as to gather district level information on the perception of gaps, with the ultimate goal to provide recommendations for appropriate responses in law and practice. The event held on 15 June presented a compilation of these recommendations, to give an update of one year of in-depth and joint consultations within a Working Group on Fair Trial (WGFT), supported by EUPOL COPPS. A projection of the way forward towards a comprehensive strategy on fair trial was also provided.
