EUPOL COPPS organises training on gender-based violence for Palestinian judges

On 18 January 2016, EUPOL COPPS organised a specialized training on gender-based violence for 10 Palestinian judges in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The three-day training, which was concluded on Monday, touched upon several issues such as the different forms of gender based violence in Palestine, international legal framework, best practices regarding gender based violence and other related topics.  The event was inaugurated by the Supreme Court Judge Eman Nasr Eldeen who delivered a message from the High Judicial Council (HJC) to the participants. Deputy Minister of Justice Mr. Mohamad Abu Sondos met the participants to emphasize  the importance of such training.  Experts from Women’s Centre of Legal Aid and Counseling (WCLAC) and criminology professor Ph.D. Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian provided their expertise on the difficulties in dealing with gender based violence and the best ways to handle such problems, enlighten with best international practices in that field of expertise.  The activity is part of the continuous training of the Palestinian Judicial Institute and has the role of raising the awareness of the judges on human rights and gender.
