EUPOL COPPS provide high visibility vests to the Traffic police

On 27 July EUPOL COPPS delivered 540 high visibility vests at Ramallah Palestinian Civil Police Traffic Department (PCPTD) facilities. By providing those high 540 visibility vests, EUPOL COPPS support a substantial improvement with regard to road traffic safety in the West Bank, further enhancing PCPTD’s own security and increasing their visibility. First, PCPTD police officers will be able to do their work much more safely by wearing appropriate high visibility vests. Second, by using high visibility vests, the Traffic Department and its road safety operators will be much more visible, which reflects positively on their own security and the driver’s behaviour in the West Bank. In addition, it will help the PCPTD to accomplish another step forward in meeting standards currently in place in European Union countries, (i.e. regulation EN ISO 20471:2013), designated for persons working within 1.2 meters of a highway with moving traffic in excess of 50 km/h. The PCP traffic department is one of the main frontline policing departments in the West Bank. Working in a safer and more visible manner will allow the PCPTD to further increase its professional and competent image and reinforce the importance of the concept of road safety in the public.
