On 23 November 2016, EUPOL COPPS invited international actors within the field of penitentiary to a workshop in order to join efforts to provide comprehensive support in the field of penitentiary. The one-day workshop at EUPOL COPPS Mission discussed the current strategic plan for the Correction and Rehabilitation Centers Department which aims at enhancing the penitentiary capabilities of the Palestinian Civil Police. The activity enables the international community to ‘speak with one voice’ which enhances both the Mission’s ability to work effectively in a coordinated manner, and give the Palestinian counterparts “greater possibility to use the offered support in a comprehensive and beneficial way,” EUPOL COPPS project manager said.
The international partners include Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), International Committee of the Red Cross, The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces – DCAF –, The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and The Office of the European Union Representative in Jerusalem.
EUPOL COPPS has been working with the PCP since several years to upgrade their correction and rehabilitation centres, in line with international standards.
