On April 27 2019, EUPOL COPPS concluded an extensive training programme for nearly 20 Palestinian police officers, to enhance their capabilities on strategic communications.
The programme, which started in 2014, media expert and former government spokesperson Nour Odeh showed the Public Relations officers and their deputies in the 11 districts theoretical and practical lectures on best ways to interact with journalists and how to handle media in a crisis time.
The primary aim was to further develop the Palestinian Civil Police tools to communicate positively on its activities while being better prepared to face the challenging questions.
During the training period, the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) public relations and media officers received extensive training on how to handle interviews, how to answer tough questions, how to write stories highlighting their activities and how to handle a scenario where a cluster of incidents are taking place in various West Bank districts.
An extensive training was also delivered to the PCP spokesperson.
The trainers also explained to the attendees the need to ensure smooth coordination amongst various PCP administrations to get the right information and share it with the public. The information should be timely and accurate all the time.
The training also included sessions on preparing master messages to be delivered to journalists. The two-year training period has been positively reflected on their day to day interaction with the media.
